A clear invoice, paid faster

A number, a date, readable lines and an unambiguous total: that’s what speeds up payments. If you charge taxes, keep that portion aside — it belongs to Revenu Québec. This tool is informational and doesn’t replace an accountant.

Frequently asked questions

How does a line (quantity × price) work?

Each line multiplies a quantity by a unit price. For billed time: quantity = 5, unit = “h”, unit price = $54 gives $270. For a fixed amount (flat rate, materials), leave the quantity at 1 and put the price in “Unit price”. Each line’s amount and the totals are calculated automatically.

What must a compliant invoice in Québec contain?

At $150 or more (taxes included), Revenu Québec requires: your client’s exact name, a clear description of each service or good, the payment terms, and — if you charge taxes — your GST and QST registration numbers with each tax shown separately. The tool brings all of these together and gently warns you if something is missing.

Do I have to put GST and QST on my invoice?

Only if you’re registered for the GST and QST (mandatory above $30,000 in taxable sales). If so, add the GST (5%) and the QST (9.975%) on top of the subtotal, separately. Otherwise, uncheck the box: you invoice without taxes. Finoutil’s GST/QST tool tells you whether you need to register.

Is the GST/QST I charge my income?

No. You collect it for the government and must remit it (less your credits on purchases). Your business income is always calculated before taxes. Set the tax portion aside as soon as you’re paid.

How do I get my invoice as a PDF?

Click “Download the invoice (PDF)”, then choose “Save as PDF” as the destination in your browser’s print window. Everything happens on your device: no data is sent or kept.

Do I have to display my GST and QST numbers?

Yes, if you charge taxes. Your registration numbers (GST and QST) must appear on an invoice of $30 or more so your client can claim their credits. Add them in the fields provided.
